University of Huddersfield Placement Student
/Over the last year many clients will have met Charlie who is our first placement student from the School of Art, Design and Architecture at the University of Huddersfield. We were thrilled that she chose to join us for her placement year. It has been a great experience to train another installer and to learn how a Hang My Art placement has helped support her BA. Here is a little more about Charlie!
Course? Illustration, although for my first year and half my second year it was also Contemporary Art and Illustration.
Favourite medium/materials/technique to use? Drawing pens/Biro and Watercolour paints.
What inspires you? People and our personalities - how our minds work and mental health.
What song always makes you dance? Thrift Shop by Macklemore.
Top 3 dinner party guests? Will Smith, Ryan Reynolds and Jennifer Aniston.
Favourite Museum or Art Gallery? The National Science and Media museum in Bradford is one of my favourites as my Dad used to take me here when I was younger, and I remember finding it fascinating and so much fun.
If you could speak another language fluently what would it be, and why? Italian - because I love the country as it's full of art and history, I love the food and I think it's such a beautiful and romantic language.
How does the placement with Hang My Art help you? Working with Hang My Art has been a brilliant placement for me as an artist.
It's taught me, what I think are, necessary skills for an artist - knowing how to properly hang and present your own work, as this can hugely affect the perception of your work and of course presentation is key. And, this will help me with my own art exhibitions, and end of year university shows.
Not only this, but I've had a real insight into the art industry - working with galleries all over Yorkshire, learning what artists are current and seeing what work people are buying.
Not to mention, getting to see lots of different works of art is a great inspiration for my own work.
